Devery Henderson Catches On

By Walter Bridges

After being on the inactive list for most of his rookie season and being buried on the depth chart his sophomore year, Henderson is on a roll. The speedster is now giving NFL defensive backs the same headaches he gave SEC DB’s during his tenure at LSU.

Henderson, who played a big part in LSU’s national champion in 2003, he was selected as the 18th pick in the 2nd round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Saints. Henderson didn’t impress coaches too much at training camp. He was only activated once during as a rookie. He stuck with it and saw some meager playing time his 2nd year. He finished the year with 343 yards on the year with 3 touchdowns.

Coming into this season Henderson was moved up in the depth chart to be the third option after Donte Stallworth was traded to the Eagles.

With rookie sensation Marques Colston still out with an ankle sprain, the Saints needed Henderson to beat Atlanta in the Georgia Dome. He torched the Falcons for 158 yards on four catches and TD. The former LSU sprinter beat the Falcons for a 76 yard touchdown. The week before that against the Cincinnati Bengals, Henderson grabbed nine passes for 169 yards in the losing effort.

Henderson has three one hundred yard games this season. So far this year he has 548 yards and 4 touchdowns.
