Radio Personality Keeping It Real In Baton Rouge
By: Chris Wilson and Vincent Ball

Keeping it real is never easy, especially in a career where you are constantly in the public eye; or in this case, the public ear. But for one local radio personality this seems to be second nature.   Sashika, who makes up one-third of the Max 94.1 Wake up Syndicate, has been hitting the morning airwaves for years now. Aside from bringing a little humor to your morning routine, she is also dedicated to bringing local artists into the spotlight.

We caught up with the beautiful, self-proclaimed Island Princess a few weeks ago while covering a video release party on October 26, 2006 at SoGo Live Downtown for local R&B group Elysian Fieldz. Sashika says she’s a huge fan of Arin and Alexis, who are the members of the group and says that they are some of the most humble people she has ever met. Sashika is definitely not afraid to step out and get Baton Rouges' local talent a chance to shine. She provides artists the opportunity to go to the radio's website and submit their best track with a chance to have it played on the radio which could be the outlet they need to get in the game.

Sashika, who was voted the number one female radio personality in 2005, is not only a driven businesswoman, but she is also a mother, which keeps her busy but also well rounded and focused. Sashika continues to be an integral part in the Baton Rouge community, attending and sometimes participating in numerous functions from Southern University to LSU. Sashika is planning on attending law school at Southern University, in pursuit of two degrees, Paralegal Studies and English Composition. In a quote taken from her biography on Max 94.1's artist page Sashika says, "Two words, if not anything, HAVE FAITH and your dreams will come true.”There is no age limit on success." Much love to Sashika the Island Princess for continuing to keep it real for everyone who is doing something positive in radio.

Vote for Sashika at southernentawards.com to become the #1 female radio personality of the year!

Rubens’ Return
By: Chris Wilson, Entertainment Editor

Americas’ velvet teddy bear is back with a brand new style. Ruben lost over 70 pounds on a vegetarian diet to keep him healthy against family health problems. Good thing he didn’t lose his smooth voice and music appeal. Coming off of a mediocre effort in his ill-advised journey into gospel, Ruben is ready to once again capture America’s heart with his down south charm.

His third album appropriately entitled The Return is slated to be another billboard hit. It has already sold 11,000 copies since October, 17 2006, despite lack of major marketing.
Ruben works with a slew of different legendary songwriters as well as relatively new writers such as Ne-Yo. Rubens first single entitles “Change Me” features the softer more definitive side of the R&B crooner and his second single, “Velvet Teddy Bear,” is set to release to the airwaves later on this year. Ruben also has stepped up his production game, teaming up with Scott Storch, Bryan Michael Cox, and Mario Winans. The Return debuted on the billboard charts at number 8, selling over 71,000 copies in the first week.

The American Idol, Season 2 winner began his career in 2003 with the release of his debut album, Soulful which sold past platinum status. This was followed by his sophomore effort I Need an Angel which bottomed out at gold status. Ruben is back and is determined to make his place in the R&B world again. The Return has begun!
