SU student semi-finalist in art competition, Oct 31, 2003

Artist Bio
Born on August 13 1982, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Terrell grew up in East Baton Rouge Parish the youngest of 11 children in a devoutly
focused family. His father is James Evans - a former worker at the Exxon Mobile Company, and his mother is Marlene Evans - a loving/strong woman, who loves her children with passion. He was originally inspired by his older brother, Marlon (who is still an artist). Marlon taught the young Terrell the skill of drawing. Terrell is now a junior Fine Arts major at Southern University. He plans after graduation, to attend graduate school at Penn State University to earn a Master’s of Fine Arts Degree. A proud accomplishment while at Southern University, Terrell was a semi-finalist in a HBCU art competition held in New York City in 2003. Artist Statement
“Every little girl and boy that has been born, has a talent deep in
their hearts”. As an artist I love to work with graphite pencil and prisma color. I am currently learning, the technique of working with conte’ crayons. In my art work I want to stimulate the minds of my African American people; addressing spirituality, racism, and past events. Secondly, I am focusing on women’s life styles; the way that many of them disrespect their bodies. Pain and joy is the key to my works. I want to touch lives. I want to reach the heart of a little girl and boy and motivate them, and help lift their self esteem. I want to create works that touch the human in us all.
